North x Northwest Law Group is a boutique transactional firm based in Tacoma, Washington. We work in exactly three areas — business law, nonprofit law, and trademarks & copyright — and we've built the firm around staying that way.
That's a deliberate choice. Business owners and nonprofit leaders don't need a lawyer who dabbles in twelve different fields; they need one who's spent years in the specific weeds of entity formation, tax elections, IP filings, and commercial contracts. That focus is what lets us move fast and get things right the first time.
Most of what we do is preventative. A clean operating agreement, a well-drafted contract, a trademark registered before someone else claims it — the work happens before there's a dispute, not after. Around here, we have a saying: "It's not a problem until it is." Our job is making sure it never is.
We're a small firm by design, based in a walkable neighborhood in Tacoma, and we like it that way. Our attorneys take the time to understand the people and the business behind every matter, and treat the relationship as a partnership rather than a transaction.

North x Northwest Law Group was founded in 2019 by Brooke Johnson. After graduating from Gonzaga Law School, Brooke spent years doing transactional business work at one of Tacoma's largest firms — good, stable work, the kind most attorneys spend a career building toward. But as she approached partnership, she found herself asking a harder question: was this the practice she actually wanted to run for the next twenty years?
The answer led her to start her own firm instead.
"I wanted control over the kind of work I do," she says. "And now, every day, it's something new. It's like a different puzzle all the time."
That variety is by design. Working across business, tax, nonprofit, and intellectual property law lets Brooke — and the attorneys who've joined her — stay genuinely engaged with every client's problem, rather than running the same playbook on repeat.
